The seed for this site was planted out of long dialogues with my intellectual brother Joe. We were both young and ignorant, but highly competitive individuals who loved routine and to push each other to be better. What first started out as early morning workouts and basketball trainings developed into something deeper that neither of was aware of until years later. Joe and I first started off talking vaguely about politics and things that did not make sense to us, or general inconsistencies in the world. But overtime it naturally grew into time-intensive discussions where what we parsed through, or the sides we were dialoguing for, were not necessarily our own beliefs but the most logical/rational articulation of a given world view, value, identity, issue or topic that we could think of or find. These discussions were never planned they just spurred up, and we would just go at it for two to fours hours at a time, six days a week for about 2 years.
Through engaging in “Mixed Devil’s Advocacy,” my intellectual brother Joe and I developed our own individual justifications for why certain ideas are right or wrong, and better or worse than others. Our discussions were not limited to our own beliefs, but rather focused on articulating the most logical and rational world views, values, identities, issues or topics we could think of or find. We both believed that many other people had gone through similar experiences and figured out their own beliefs by understanding both their own perspective and the perspectives of others. Unfortunately, not many people have had these experiences. The term Dialogue is comes from the Greek word “dia-logos” meaning “to see through meaning.” Or as more eloquently explained: “The act of dialogue is intentionally seeking to understand by listening deeply, inquiring and advocating in order to uncover meanings, reveal assumptions and walk in another person’s shoes. It is a process of seeking new ways to understand each other and create a shared sense of meaning through conversation.” Thereby, the purpose of this page is to help facilitate this “dialogue” that is necessary for a healthy society.
